Description

A Khaladi man of about sixty, long dead by the party's day, remembered in statues and stained glass. Deep brown skin weathered by desert light, a close-cropped grey beard, and heavy-lidded eyes that look permanently at something far off. He wears the layered indigo and gold robes of an old empire, a brass astrolabe hung at his belt.

Background

Shahzir the Stargazer was the third bearer of the Crown of Judgement and the builder of the empire's first observatory. The city's great library carries his name, and a statue of him stands in its lower stacks with a secret behind it: it answers to the old Khaladi word Yazir, and swings aside onto the way down into Shefir's Prison.

He wrote The Star-Road of Shahzir, a folding star-chart of beaten copper leaf that names him in its colophon.
