Description

Jashan Brasslantern is a broad-shouldered Khaladi smith with a barrel chest, brass-burnished hands, and forearms thick from decades at the forge. He wears a heavy leather apron over an ochre tunic, sleeves rolled past the elbow, and a small brass-and-glass lamp clipped to his belt at all times — a working sample of his most distinctive craft. His dark hair is cropped short and dusted with metal filings.

Personality

Steady, measured, and deeply proud of his work. Jashan does not haggle, but he will explain at length why a piece costs what it costs. He believes a well-made lantern can keep a soul whole on a bad night in the deep desert, and he treats every commission with that gravity. He is quiet around customers but warm with apprentices and children.

Background

Jashan runs Brass Lantern Armory in the Khasim's Crown shopping district, an armorer-and-lantern-maker hybrid serving the city's caravaneers, Sirocco Wardens, and Lyceum field expeditions. His scimitars, spears, and light lamellar are good Khaladi work; what built his name are the ward-lanterns — brass cages of glass etched with sun sigils, paired with sand-goggles, that steady the nerves and dim the senses of nearby Sandwalkers. Every Warden patrol carries at least one of his lanterns. The Brasslantern family has held its Lyceum seat for four generations on the strength of the trade.
